Outreach Cataract-Commemoration to King Bhumibhol

    Abstract Since October 1985, the Department of Ophthalmology, Lampang Hospital and Lampand Eye Foundation started eye examination and treatment in the provinces of Lampang and Payao which had no ophthalmologist. The eye examination process in each district hospital (amphur) was carefully done by the same standard as in regional hospitals. Operation in district hospital is limited only to the disease that will have a favorable prognosis which include minor surgery of lid, ptergium and cataract. Every pterygium surgery will follow by beta radiation from Strantium.

    Extracapsular lens extraction is a routine procedure for cataract surgery. Intraocular lens implantation were used if indicated. Seven thousand, four hundred and seventy three complete eye examination, five hundred and twenty eight cataract extraction which one hundred and sixty one lens implantation, foour hundred pterygium removal were done successfully and achieved its utimate goal as the commemoration to King Bhumiphol on his sixtieth birthday.
