Abstract  With the simple computer program, the solid angles in steradians subtended by the seeing area and scotoma, calculated from the flat presentation of the visual field charts, were done on 10 normal subjects. The normal values were 3.451 ฑ 0.304 steradians in isopter IV43, 2.271 ฑ 0.396 steradians in isopter I4e and 0.281 ฑ 0.114 steradians in isopter I2e. The normal blind spot subtended 0.012 steradians. This visual field quantification was applied to follow up 100 chronic glaucoma patients and was found to benefit on those whose visual field changes were not obvious, but there was no advantage in the early detection of glaucoma.
