Abstract Five hundred eyes underwent extracapsular lens extraction
with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in Hat Yai Hospital from
March 1986 to January 1990.
Twenty eight had intraoperative complication of descemet's membrane detachment,
tear posterior capsule and vitreous loss. Eighteen had post-operative complication
of after cataract, dislocated IOL, uveitis and endophthalmitis. These low
rate of complications command considerable attention. Although extracapsular
cataract extraction and posterior chamber implantation if of unrivaled safely
and efficacy, there is currently interest in using intraocular lens as a
method of correcting aphakia following cataract extraction in developing
country like Thailand.
