Keratoplasty in Maharaj Nakorn Chianmai Hospital : the Visual Result

Abstract The outcome of penetrating keratoplasty in 73 eyes of 67 patients
in the department of Ophthalmology, Maharaj Nakorn Chiangmai hospital from
January, 1985 to December, 1989 with average follow up time of 133.5 days
(0 to 1300 days) were reviewed.
The age ranged from 3 to 75 years (average 36 years), 44 were males 29 were
females. The most common indication for penetrating keratoplasty was leukoma
(58.9%). Most donors and recipients size were equal (72.6%) and 71.23% were
7 or 8 mm. in diameter. All donors were cut from epithelium side and stored
at 4 c, used within 48 hours expected for 3 which dexsol preservation, donated
by Lion Eye Bank, America. 26.03% had a clear graft. The final visual outcome
was improved in 34.25%, did not change in 46.58%, and worsened in 19.17%.
