Retinoblastoma
is one of the common malignant tumor in childhood. It is most common before
the age of three, and the diagnosis usually is at the aver age age of 18
months, Initial diagnosis of retino blasma in adult is extremely
rare, although seyeral cases have been reported in other countries.
This case report is of a 30-year-old man whose enucleated eye was
found to contain a retinoblastoma in Ramathibodi Hospi tal, Thailand.
CASE
REPORT
A 30-year-old man came
to the Department of Ophthalmology, Ramathibodi Hospital with the chief complaint
of painful blind eye OD for one week. He was examined eight years ago with
complaint of blurred vision in other hospital and was told that the right
eye was untreatable. Five years later, the patient came to that hospital again,
at that time he was suggested for enucleation, The patient refused and loss
follow up. Since then the patient experienced mild ocular pain off and on
and severe pain for one week. There was no family history of ocular tumor.
Ocular
examination revealed that visual acuity with best correction was no light
perception OD and 5/200 OS. Intraocular pressures OD could not be
measured, OS was 11 mmHg. Examination of the right eye was found to have
a normal size with mixed injection of conjunctiva, comeal edema and anterior
dislocation of mature cataract into the anterior chamber. The fundus could
not be seen. No exophthalmos was found. Extemal examination of the left
eye was normal but choroidal coloboma with macular region involvement of
fundus was seen.
