ABSTRACT

Since contact lenses were first introduced to correct refractive error, numbers of contact lens wearer in the affluent societies are increase, as same as increasing numbers of complications.

For the profession, innovative changes have invariably meant new challenges in patient care. The challenge lies in knowing how to match specific lens systems to particular patients; in understanding how to be balance the demands of comeal physiology, lens design, and wear needs; and in appreciating how to sort through the controversies that surround different lens systems, particularly those for extended wear. The recent knowledges and developments in contact lenses are reviewed.
