Keratitis : Clinical Analysis of 224 Cases

ABSTRACT A
review of 224 cases of suppurative keratitis treated at the Department of
Ophthalmology, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital from January 1984 through
December 1989 showed that there were 154 males and 70 females with the ratio
of 11:5. The age ranged from 6 months to 82 years, with the peak in male at
21-30 and 51-70 years and in female at 51-70 years.
Most of the patients were
injured by vegetable contaminations and some kinds of foreign bodies such
as dust, iron and insect. Majority of cases were
treated before coming to hospital (72.2%). The etiologic microorganisms were
bacteria (46.4%),fungi (41.5%) and virus (8.5%). The common bacteria were
Pneumococcus (26.9%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15.4%). The important fungi
was Fusarium (56.5%)
