Impact of Visual Aids on the Partial Sight

ABSTRACT The eighty partially sighted persons in low vision
clinic, ophthalmology department, Ramathibodi Hospital, from April 1990 to May 1991, were
analysed.
Forty-five were male and
35 were female with the age range of 4-82 years. The most common cause was
diseases of the retina (42.5%) followed of optic nerve pathology (27.5%).
Sixty two percent of patients had visual acuity between 5/200 15/200.
Different types of visual aids were prescribed with preference on spectacles
(36.25%), spectacales combined with hand held magnifier (26.25%) and spectacles
combined with stand magnifier (13.75%) respectively. Eighty percent of them
had near vision of 20/30 to 20/20 with these visual correction.
