ABSTRACT Purpose : To find the correlation between
residual refractive error after refractive surgery and uncorrected visual acuity.
Methods : A retrospective study of 294 eyes in
215 consecutive patients who underwent refractive surgery by LASIK methods was done.
Regression analysis was used to find the correlation between uncorrected visual acuity and
residual refractive error.
Results : There
was statistically significant of positive correlation between both parameters
(p < 0.001) by regression determination (R2) of 0.77, F statistic
of 127.5. The prelim inary finding also suggest that the uncorrected visual
acuity after refractive surgery is better than expected value from previous
studies in the same amount of refractive error.
Conclusion : The
magnification theory and multifocality theory was applied to explain the
result in this study.
