Esotropia in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mal A 5-Year Review

ABSTRACT A
retrospective study of 66 patients with infantile esotropia underwent surgical
procedure was performed over 5-year period in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. Of 66 patients,
33 (50%) had inferior oblique overaction, 27 (40.97%) had dissociated vertical
deviation (DVD), and 30 (45.5%) had amblyopia. During a mean follow-up of
21.6 months, 42 patients (63.6%) had final ocular alignment within 10 prism
diopters. Twenty patients (30.3%) underwent reoperation for either horizontal
or vertical misalignment or alphabet pattern strabismus. Although
twenty nine patients (43.9%) underwent primary procedure at the age of more
than 2 years, there was no statistical difference between ones underwent operation
before and after two years of age in terms of final ocular alignment within
10 prism diopters.
