ABSTRACT Prospective
study of 97 eyes of phacoemulsification were performed under intra cameral
xylocaine from June-July 1997. 5%
xylocaine heavy diluted with BSS to 1% concentration was injected into anterior
chamber prior capsulorhexis in every case. We used 1% xylocaine to do hydrodissection
and dropped to the incision before extened the incision to insert intraocular
lens. The result of patients sensation was no pain 69 eyes (71.13%) mild pain 25 eyes (25.77%), more pain but could make surgery 3 eyes (3.09%).
Every patient could make surgery with intracameral xylocaine. The result of
visual acuity was ~ 20/40 54 eyes (55.67%), 20/50-20/70 38 eyes (39.17%)
and 20/100-20/200 5 eyes (5.15%). This
study illustrated the comparision of visual acuity with the patient made phacoemulsification
under retrobulbar block. Visual acuity was not different between both groups.
