ABSTRACT Eleven consecutive cases of giant retinal tear were operated from October 1993 to December 1997. Nine cases had history of trauma and two cases were idiopathic. Multiple surgical techniques were used to reattach retina, according t6 the severity of the conditions. Follow up period varied from 3 to 25 months. At the end of the study, eight patients had visual acuity better than 20/400, six patients had better than 20/80 and one patient could see 20/20. The anatomical success after one operation was 82%. Ten patients (91%) still had attached retina at the end of study.
