ABSTRACT Ipsilateral
hypotropia with restricted elevation resulting from injury to the inferior
rectus muscle after retrobulbar anesthesia is reported. Computed
tomography of the orbit demonstrated mild focal enlargement of the retrobulbar
part of the inferior rectus muscle. The findings of magnetic resonance imaging
was compatible with fibrosis. Surgical exploration of the peribulbar portion
of the inferior rectus muscle showed no visible abnormality. Recession of
the inferior rectus muscle, or an adjustable suture, is an effective therapeutic
approach for this disorder.
