ABSTRACT The double-masked clinical study was conduct~d in dry eye patients to compare the efficacy between Dakrina applied to one eye of a patient randomly assigned and Tears Naturale applied to the contralateral eye of the same patient. Ten patients were included in the study. The dry-eye state was evaluated by observing the subjective symptoms and by determining clinical signs such as tear film break-up time, degree of vital staining by Lissamine green, Schirmer's test with anesthesia and the degree of conjunctival injection. In general, Dakrina showed a superior effect. Due to the small number of subjects however, the difference found between the two eye drops was not statistically significant at the p = 0.05 level.
Key words : break-up time, dry eyes, Schirmer's test, topical treatment, vital staining
