ABSTRACT The 163 students of the Northern School for the Blind, under Patronage
of the Queen, were examined during May 1996 to November 1996. Of these 116
were completely blind with no light perception in both eyes, 47 had some
visual ability in one eye or both. Among 47, ocular malformations were the
most common abnormality founded. Disorders of the lens were the second most
frequent finding. Multiple defects were not uncommon. Best visual acuity
range from 6/60 to counting finger. Secondary IOL implantation was the most
frequent operative procedure performed. Optical correction and visual aids
could improve the vision and quality of life of these students. Electroretinogram
is a useful adjundt to the procrastination of visual prognosis.
