ABSTRACT : A 3 month
old boy presented with rapidly ocular inflammation and hyphema. Three weeks
after diagnosis of the retinoblastoma, the tumor spontaneously regressed
without specific treatment. The eye was enucleated and sent to a pathologist
and ophthalmic pathologist. Gross examination showed serious atrophy of
the eyeball. Microscopic examination disclosed a large intraocular mass
composed of multiple areas of fossilized tumor cells intervening with areas
of cell necrosis and calcification. The final pathological findings in this
young patients have been termed true spontaneous regression.
