ABSTRACT : Purpose : To construct the good questionnaire for the change of quality of life before and after LASIK.
Methods : Data from interviewing the patients, physician and other questionnaire was gathered to construct the question draft edition with 73 questions in 7 domains. Forty-seven patients with refractive error at Siriraj Hospital replied the questionnaire concerning the quality of life pre and post LASIK 1 month.
Results : Mean age of the patients were 29.4 ? 7.5 years (? SD), with female 55.3%. Thirty – nine patients after performing LASIK 1 month felt better vision, more comfort and convenience, more satisfaction of surgical outcome with more confidence in their personality, and happier than before surgery (P < 0.001). Glare, dry eye, halo, ghost images and burning were annoying worse than before LASIK (P < 0.05). Moreover, they had to protect their eyes carefully. Intraclass correlation coefficient before and after LASIK were over 0.7 in all aspects of questionnaire, except feeling of eye change. Questions were decreased to 19 important items by clinical impact analysis and factor analysis.
Conclusion : Questionnaire for quality of life in LASIK patients was reliable and suitable for modification.
