Abstract The author aims to study the components in the ophthalmic nurse competency and to develop a model for evaluation. There are 3 steps in the study. 1) Study the components in ophthalmic nurse practitioner competency using the Ethnographic Delphi Future Research (EDFR) technique. 2) Develop a model for evaluating the competency of ophthalmic nurse practitioner. And 3) evaluate the model by trying in 3 government hospitals. The results show that the competency for ophthalmic nurse practitioner can be grouped into 2 groups, specific competency and general competency. The evaluation model composes of active nursing competencies and special ophthalmic nurse competencies. When using the evaluation model in 3 hospitals, there are no statistical differences between self evaluation and evaluation by others.
